City Council approves mixed-income housing for Sears Army Center

by shooter

Wednesday the City Council unanimously approved using the Sears Army Center for mixed income housing, in spite of residents concerns about congestions, lack of sidewalks, parking issues, and inadequate public transportation. Residents wanted an emergency response center at this site, a service needed on the west side.

After Commissioner Fish's visit Tuesday it was pretty clear that the City Council had made its decision prior to the official meeting. Residents had compiled a list of alternative locations for the housing, but without taking the time to study the options it's difficult to say the alternatives were given serious consideration.

Let's hope the City Council does more than just consider putting an emergency response center in the Southwest, it needs to actually do it.

Glad to see this eyesore used for something else. Military out of SW! Those barricades were put up after immediately september 11th. Because multnomah village is ripe for terrorism.
