by Josie
Event Date: 11/20/2008 06:30 PM
Event Location: In Good Taste Lake Oswego
Brazilian Flag Ah Brazil- warm breezes, blue waters, and bright sunshine….. when compared with November in Portland, it sounds ideal. Take this opportunity for a mid month get -away before the hectic holidays. “A Taste of Brazil”, an upcoming class at In Good Taste will give your taste buds just the vacation they (and you) need before Thanksgiving. Chef Shelley McDaniel prepares a meal that highlights the tropical flavors and historic influences of Brazil.   Brazil’s cuisine is complex and unique, with influences from Africa, Portugal, and the indigenous people who were living there when it was discovered by the Europeans. The food combines traditional recipes with modern influences.   The arrival of the Portuguese in the 1500s brought their European style of cooking and traditions. The indigenous population commonly prepared sweet potatoes, cassava meal, corn porridge, hearts of palm, fish, and smoked meat. However, the West Africans would bring the gr

Cookies!

by Josie
Event Date: 11/22/2008 10:00 AM
Event Location: In Good Taste
xmas cookie It's hard not to be fond of cookies.  There’s nothing like lifting the lid on a cookie jar and seeing a myriad of little treats, ranging from simple sugar cookies marzipan confections to buttery spritz. While cookies are lovely all year round, they are particularly suited to the holidays. You can decorate them, eat them, share them and give them as gifts. They even travel well if they're packaged right. This year, In Good Taste is crazy for cookies. There is a treat -oriented holiday class to fit every appetite. On Sunday, November 23 at 2:00 at the Pearl District location, Ken Hoyt will teach “Cookies!”. His class will include a basic cookie dough that can be turned into a roll, bar, or drop cookie with just a few additions. It also freezes well. He’ll also be preparing Gluten Free Brownies, Super Deluxe Chocolate Bark, and White Chocolate & Toasted Almond Caramel Corn. These cookies are elegantly addictive- and

City Council will Take Action on Ordinances regarding ALTERNATIVES TO CELL TOWERS

by Trace
Event Date: 11/26/2008 12:00 AM
Event Location: Council Chambers, City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Ave
On Wednesday, November 26, 2008, city staff will be going to Council with the final proposed amendments regarding the manner in which wireless companies may place antennae on utility poles, and replace utility poles with taller ones for wireless purposes. The proposed amendments are designed to balance the need to retain neighborhood character and livability with the expanding need to provide wireless services in neighborhoods. They were developed over the course of two years. Staff conducted three public forums in March, 2008, followed by an online survey in April-May, 2008 (that was responded to by over 900 people, and over 350 individual comments were also received), followed by a citywide public meeting in October, 2008. In short, staff is proposing to allow antennae on utility poles in residential areas on residential streets only as a last resort - when no other site or combination of sites for antennae is feasible. Even then, staff proposes to reduce the allowed pole rep

Christmas Ship Parade

by pearlgirl
Event Date: 12/06/2008 07:00 PM
Event Location: Willamette and Columbia Rivers
Fgallery1-10 2008 marks the 54rd year for the Christmas Ship Parade on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers in Portland, Oregon. Please click on the Willamette or the Columbia Schedule links for complete schedules with route details including viewing locations and times for restaurants, hotels and outdoor viewing.

The Christmas Ship Fleet averages about 55 to 60 boats between the two Columbia and Willamette River fleets. Both fleets will be out every night for two weeks beginning December 10, 2008 and running through December 21, 2008. The fleet will do a special performance in Camas, WA on Dec. 6th. As we are an all volunteer organization, not all the boats make it out every night. Without the donations from the restaurants and the hotels along the waterfront, this parade would not be possible. Please book your Christmas parties at our sponsoring restaurants and hotels. They are listed by viewing dates on the fleet schedule links with phone numbers and links to their websites. Thei
