Achieve Your Fitness Resolution For 2009
by TeachStreet
How many years have gone by where your New Year's resolution was to exercise and get in shape , but by the end of the year you've found yourself having to renew that promise? If you aren't a hardcore athlete , and don't plan to be, then yoga lessons may be the genie in a bottle that makes your New Year's wishes come true in 2009.

Especially if you have prior joint and bone injuries, doing plyometrics, weightlifting and running on a treadmill can put a lot of strain on your vulnerable body parts. The non-abrasive, body flexing, joint strengthening art of yoga is just what the doctor orders. The dual benefit of yoga over many other forms of exercises is that it is a powerful mental discipline as well. Yoga means union, which through my interpretation is the union of the mind and body. Practicing meditation has many great health benefits beyond the physical, as many doctors claim.&

Health Notes » A Gift for Caregivers
by pearlgirl
The holiday season may be more stressful and less joyful for many family caregivers. Because caregivers are often overwhelmed with the responsibilities of caring for a chronically ill loved one, the holiday season may seem like one more difficult hurdle to overcome. Following are some suggestions that may help make the holidays more enjoyable for the caregiver as well as for the care receiver. Be clear about your limits Let family members know that your caregiving duties keep you very busy and that you have limited energy for holiday gatherings and need to set limits on your involvement. Open and honest communication about the realities of the caregiving situation you face offers others the opportunity to respond with assistance. Accept that holiday traditions may change Caregivers often have to adapt their traditional role or experience of the holidays. Choose which events to host or attend based on which would be the simplest, least exhausting and most enjoyable for the

Kidical Mass - Second Ride
by nancy
Last night was the second Kidical Mass ride in Portland. Decorated bikes, a primer on rules of the road, and lots of kids excited to ride safely in the street. KPTV was there, and here's a link to a video and article on their website. This was my son's first time riding his own bike on the road while I biked next to him. I couldn't have asked for a safer way for him to get some time on the road. The ride leaders are excellent, the group stays together, and all the parents and kids are watching out for each other. This is a fabulous way to role model good riding skills, and have kids and adults learning together. Kidical Mass is now a regular event, taking place on the third Friday of every month. Hope to see you on August 15th. If you'd like to get updates from the ride organizer, Angela, you can email her at angela@bta4bikes.org and ask to be added to her distribution list.

HeartBreak—Great Pups for Adoption
by pdxdog
We are so lucky to be in such a wonderful dog loving community. pdxdog.com is only one site where you can find some of the hundreds of dogs up for adoption—placed on our site by the many rescue and adoption groups in our area. Too many of the stories will break your heart and the dogs are so sweet. They just want a good home and love, just like all of us. We know that there are a lot of animals that need good homes, maybe yours is one of them. Everytime I read one of these "bad" care stories, I get so angry and disgusted at these very thoughtless and stupid people. It's simple, just don't have a dog, if you don't want to take care of one! If you are looking for a pup, check pdxdog.com and the many selfless and fantastic groups that help them out. In the future, we will list some of them for you to check out. Maybe you can comment by listing someone you know that rescues and adopts dogs... We can be the best adoption and rescue city!!! Thanks Portland!
