Trick or Vote!
by souk
Halloween is the one day each year we culturally expect a knock on the door and it also always falls just days before the election. You may be too old to trick-or-treat, but you're never too old to trick-or-vote. Studies show that face-to-face contact is the most effective method to boost voter turnout—increasing participation by as much as 8–12%. Trick or Vote is the nation's largest non-partisan get-out-the-vote canvass hits the streets … in costume
"Trick or Vote" is the effort of a coalition working to make targeted voter contacts in urban areas on Halloween. Just 4 days before the election, costumed volunteers will canvass low-turnout, youth-dense precincts to remind people to vote, distribute nonpartisan voter guides, and generate both grassroots and media awareness of Election Day.
After the massive canvass we'll gather again for the Ghouls and Goblins Gala, a Halloween bash of epic proportions, and boogie down th

Pearl District Neighborhood Photo Submission
by pearlgirl
This photo is a little piece of history that most people now living at the Casey will never know about. I took photos every day while they were building the Casey a year ago and this was a strike that went on for a few days. It must have been resolved, because one day the guys and the signs disappeared. There was a lot of action around the building of the Casey. Now, you would never know any of it happened! -Roxanne Mossman Guys With Starbucks On Strike At The Casey

by pearlgirl

In the past, time limits were not imposed, but according to an article in the Portland Tribune there is a proposal that places a four-hour cap on free parking for those with the permit. The intent is to crack down on those who abuse the system, as well as improve parking for downtown shoppers and increase parking meter income. As you might suspect, disability rights activists are outraged. What do you think?
