Pearl Animal Hospital to Open

by pdxdog
greenland-dog-pups-greenland-987645-mn We are so excited to learn that Pearl Animal Hospital is opening (hopefully) in September in the Pearl District. The practice will be located in the Pinnacle Building , right near the Fields —how perfect is that location! Dr. Courtney Anders is the vet opening the new practice, and it so happens, she is Ellie's vet (my dog) and comes to the Pearl from Raleigh Hills Vet. She wants to listen to community needs, play a role in the community and offer the best dog medicine around. She loves animal denistry. pdxdog.com is very excited about this news. Stay tuned for more information!

General Automotive Building Converted to Office & Retail Space

by pearlgirl
TN-445608_GeneralAutomotiverending HomeStreet Capital, one of the Northwest's oldest commercial real estate lenders, has provided $10.2 million in construction financing for conversion of the General Automotive Building in Portland, Ore., from a vacant warehouse to office and retail space. Financing was arranged by Gregg Weed of HomeStreet Capital through HomeStreet Bank portfolio funds. Additionally, a seismic loan was provided by the Portland Development Commission. The project will utilize historic tax credits. The General Automotive Building is located on the Park blocks at the intersection of NW Park and NW Flanders. The site is being developed by Rob Brewster, president of Northwest-based ConoverBond Development , which owns, manages, leases and develops property. Brewster has renovated a dozen older buildings ranging from hotels to student housing in Spokane, Seattle and Washington DC. This is Brewster's first project in Portland. The warehouse was built in 1923 and currently consists of one two-story and one

Internationally Known Plastic Surgeon Joins the Pearl Women's Center

by pearlgirl
For over 20 years, Dr. Richard Bensimon has been one of the most sought after board certified, plastic and reconstructive surgeons on the East coast, but beginning this July he's trading it all in for our Northwest lifestyle and a new home at Pearl Women's Center. "This is very exciting news for the center," explains Medical Director, Dr. Richard Rosenfield. "Our patients have been asking about bringing plastic surgery to the center for some time, and attracting a surgeon of Dr. Bensimon's caliber is a real testament to our community." Dr. Bensimon attended medical school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. After graduating with honors, he completed his surgical residency at the prestigious Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. He placed his private practice on hold for a year to serve as the surgical director of a refugee camp hospital on the Thailand-Cambodian border. Upon his return to New York, he completed an in-depth plastic surgery fellowsh

On the foie gras front...

by shooter
tanner-ducks-016 Another restaurant was targeted by animal rights activists for serving foie gras, Alberta Street Oyster Bar and Grill. Though I don't think you can call the protest a "success". Before they got started, the owner of the restaurant greeted the protesters and informed them that the foie gras had been removed from the menu. It turns out the removal was part of a strategic shift to shop at local farmers markets, and not a philosophical alignment with the protesters.

Ten01 may get another visit since foie gras has returned to the menu due to customer demand. It seems that more than restaurateurs like foie gras. Since customers demanded the item return to the menu, can we now expect protesters to target individuals entering the restaurant?

Read the story in Willamette Week .

by pearlgirl
h2 We've heard rumblings about two pending business closures, but were asked to keep it hush hush . Today, via Portland Picks , Bella Moda Designs (11th & Lovejoy) announced that it will not renew its lease. A liquidation sale is planned July 1–31. We'd like to wish Catherine the best of luck on future endeavors. Meanwhile, we're waiting for the other shoe to drop—confirmation that another shoe boutique will close its doors. Stay tuned.
