The word on the bird

by pearlgirl
Order your turkey and all the trimmings online at New Seasons Market and have it delivered to your door.

The only thing that would make Thanksgiving Dinner any easier is if they could send someone over to cook it...

North Pearl District Plan

by shooter
What is the North Pearl District Plan?

The North Pearl District Plan (NPDP) is a comprehensive planning project that is considering the urban form and type of community that will emerge in the northern portion of the Pearl District. This plan is not intended to result in the creation of a new district but rather provide a blue print for how development in this area will continue the expansion of the Pearl District northward and better connect with the Willamette River and adjacent neighborhoods to the north and west of the Pearl.

Background

In March 2005, the Portland City Council adopted a series of Zoning Code and Comprehensive Plan Map amendments proposed as part of the North of Lovejoy Plan. This planning effort focused on future development immediately surrounding two of the three parks identified in the park network identified by the 2001 River District Park System Urban Design Framework (also known as the Peter Walker Master Plan).

Lozano out at Portland Family of Funds

by shooter
Norris Lozano, the controversial chief executive and founder of the Portland Family of Funds , is no longer with the firm.

"He's going to move on and do other things," says Portland Family of Funds board chairman Carl Talton, who has replaced Lozano as CEO.

Talton declined to discuss any aspect of Lozano's departure, which occured last Wednesday.

"We don't comment on personnel matters except to say Norris elected to go and we wish him the best," Talton says.

First Thursday | Peter Miller at Countrywide

by pearlgirl

Peter Miller

you go out looking for photographs. looking for stunning images. then one day you walk by a spot you've walked by a thousand times and take a picture. and something happens as you look at that picture. you see things you've never seen before. a new world emerges and your life is changed forever. photographs find you. it is exciting and you want to share your vision with the world. you want others to feel the exhilaration that you felt in seeing and creating your images. and when they share your experience you feel another exhilaration. different but no less intensely felt. and just like that you are an artist.

View more of Miller's work at Caplan Art Designs .

This First Thursday at a few local galleries

by shooter
And I'll make a shameless plug for my pieces in City Hall this Thursday. They'll be up in Sam Adams office all month. Shameless, and proud of it.

From the Portland Tribune :

In art, maybe 80 is the new 21
If you’ve ever asked yourself, “What kind of art will I make when I’m 80?” Robert A. Nelson’s show at Beppu Wiarda Gallery this month has the answer: whatever you flaming well want.

The former teacher at the Art Institute of Chicago is clearly having fun at 82. His new works are narrative pitched just this side of total surrealism, based on history as well as fairy tales.

For instance, in “The Burger King Surrenders London to the Romans” a bunch of Caesar’s flabby officers accept the surrender of some diminutive cheeseburgers. The architecture in the background dissolves into blueprints, while numerous tiny details keep your eyes working as you dip in and out of the composition and the possible story.

BodVox Water Bodies Family Matinee

by nancy
BodyVox is offering a special Family Matinee of Water Bodies on November 10th at 2:00. The Family Matinee performance includes special intermission activities for children ages 5 and up. BodyVox takes great care to make art that is suitable for children without being childish.

We'll be there - would you like to get together after the show?

More info on Water Bodies, from the website

In celebration of BodyVox’s tenth anniversary we have a special season prepared. We start with one of our most lush and sophisticated works, Water Bodies, inspired by the epic journey of water’s endless transformations. Then to round it out we will present the World Premiere of Horizontal Leanings featuring an original score by South African composer Bongani Ndodana-Breen.

Every show is performed to live music played by Third Angle.
