Happy Birthday Ida!
by pearlgirl
I would like to wish a very special lady a very happy 98th birthday. Happy Birthday, Ida!!! Ida is a Pearl District resident who lives with her twin daughters, Joan & Joyce, in the Irving Street Lofts. The three "Golden Girls" as they are lovingly called, are seen frequenting restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. Urban living is obviously where you find the fountain of youth!

Feeding Seniors in The Pearl
by pearlgirl
Do your grandparents live close? Are you too far away to help them the way you would like to?
There are seniors right in your neighborhood, perhaps just across the street that you can help.
Meals-on-Wheels delivers 200 meals every day to seniors living in the Pearl, Northwest, and downtown who are homebound and can’t prepare their own meals. They also serve 150 meals every day to seniors who can get to the center at the YWCA right behind the Portland Art Museum.
The downtown Meals-on-Wheels Center is in the midst of planning an auction for April 6th to be held at the Center. We need donations to be auctioned, sponsors to support expenses we can not get for trade, and volunteers. The auction is not intended to be a lavish or flashy event, just people who care about getting nutritious meals to those who can’t do it for themselves. If you can help in any way, please contact me at lorisilverman@comcast.net or Marjorie Halford, Center Manager at mha

Tsunami Benefit Concert
by pearlgirl
Local musician Aaron Meyer will stage a benefit concert for the victims of the tsunami on Friday, Jan. 21. The concert is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. in the Oregon Ballroom of the Portland Marriott Hotel on the Waterfront (1401 S.W. Naito Parkway). Admission is by donation; proceeds will be donated to Northwest Medical Teams, which is helping to coordinate tsunami relief efforts and aid.
The Portland event is the second benefit concert coordinated by Meyer, who was performing in northern Thailand when the deadly tsunami hit on Dec. 26. Meyer visited Phuket, which had been hard hit, and agreed to host a benefit performance at Phuket’s Chedi Hotel on Jan. 5. That performance raised $10,000 in donations that are currently being used to rebuild the villages of Phuket.
In addition to his music, Meyer, who toured several areas devastated by the tsunami, will speak about this personal experience, show pictures he took, and take questions.
