Protecting yourself from Identity Theft

by pearlgirl
Just read the notes and in particular Bryce's suggestion to put a "fraud alert" on your credit reports if you think you've been a victim of identity theft. It might be helpful to educate people that a fraud alert is a "flag" that is added to your credit report via the credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. It's easy to do and can usually be accomplished by making one phone call to Equifax at 1-800-525-6285. The alert is in effect for 90 days free of charge. I wasn't sure how else to get this information to you and am not sure that it's the type of thing you want to publish but it just seems to complete Bryce's suggestion.

Indentity Theft Alert: PLEASE READ

by pearlgirl
Good Morning All,

Last night I was called by Detective Lisa Clayton, Portland Police SE Precinct who informed me that sometime in November a neighborhood building’s residents were the victims of mail theft and may be identity theft victims as well. She gave me a list of names from evidence they have collected and we will be following up with the owners on that list today. We are also providing her a resident list so she can check it against names on the evidence she has. She will contact any owners that she has information on. The Police confiscated everything from checks to id cards. Additionally, there may be other owners and neighborhood buildings that are affected so she has asked us to post a notice in the buildings we manage asking residents to check with the credit bureaus and their financial institutions to see if there is any unusual activity on their accounts. If there is she would like those owners to call her at 503-823-5043. She did request that unless the res

Pearl District Logo

by pearlgirl

pd_logo_txtr(sm)
Originally uploaded by pearlgirl . Have you seen the new logo for The Pearl? It is a new logo and tagline for the Pearl District Business Association (PDBA). The Pearl Walking Maps had to be re-designed this year due to the growth in membership and that presented the perfect opportunity to create a logo and tagline with a fresh look for the walking map, Pearl Pulse, www.shopthepearl.com website and other marketing materials. The PDBA will also create decals of the logo for Pearl merchants to use in their windows to indicate their membership and support of the business association.

"We are very happy with the work done by Sockey Creative and think the tagline "Art of the City" suits the Pearl District perfectly!"-Sue Miller, PDBA

Art districts paint the town

New York may be the nation's mecca for art lovers, but it's not the only U.S. city with an artsy vibe. Over the past decade, a growing number of other urban areas have sprouted thriving art districts — complete with live-in artists, galleries and funky stores. USA TODAY's Gene Sloan looks at three burgeoning art districts outside the Big Apple that are worth a detour.
A spot for late-night dining: The Continental Restaurant & Martini Bar, on Market Street in Philadelphia's Old City area.

The Crossroads/Kansas City, Mo.
The scene: Located just south of downtown, the Crossroads was a no-go zone of vacant buildings until artists began moving in about a decade ago. And it's only in the past few years that the area has exploded with art galleries, restaurants and design stores. Thousands now turn out for First Fridays, a co

Pearl break in 12-12-04

by pearlgirl
Yesterday (12-12-04) around 7pm we received a call from a resident that there was a suspicious person in a garage who stated they were working on their bike and this was near the garage elevator lobby. Upon further inspection of the garage we found a car broken into and vandalism to the building. The owner of the car that was broken into was immediately contacted along with the police and our on call service technician cleaned up the vandalism after meeting with the police. I notified security that the suspicious person was a white male in his early twenties and had a red cap on. Later on that night security noticed a person fitting that description in the park with who appeared to his girlfriend. Security immediately contacted the police and followed the stranger who had a black BMX bike from the park over to a garage gate of a building that we manage. The stranger stood next to the gate and appeared to be waiting and then spotted the security guard and took off on his bike. Security

Break In

by pearlgirl
Good Morning All,

We had another break-in last night at a neighborhood building. The thief used a car or some device it appears to push open the garage swing gates. Two cars were broken into. This matches the MO of other recent neighborhood break-ins so I have included below the description of the suspects from one of those break ins. If you see
people acting suspicious that match either description please contact the police and management as soon as possible. The police have been notified of this recent break in and we are having security do double back patrols for the buildings that have this service. As a friendly reminder please do not keep valuables in your vehicle and to always stop and watch the gate close behind you.

Description;

The first suspect is described as a male Caucasian, 30 to 45 years of age, 6 feet tall with a blonde goatee and blonde hair wearing camoflauge (dark green) pants, a baseball cap, black jacket with hood, and

Countrywide Mortgage Moves to The Edge

by pearlgirl
We've all secretly had our own wishes for the corner space in The Edge. Me? 24 hour donuts. It's probably a good thing that we don't all get our way!

Countrywide Mortgage has leased this space. No details on occupancy date, but I'm sure we'll hear more about them in the very near future. Welcome to the Pearl!
