Shop Talk – The Paper Station
by alex
I'm not a big fan of air travel (too many people in too small a space with too many bumps and mechanical noises!) but I am a big fan of the Portland airport. It's a nice, manageable size, clean and organized, and best of all, they have some great shops where you can easily kill some time if you're early for a flight or waiting for a loved one to arrive.I especially love The Paper Station – as the name implies they have a great selection of greeting cards and other paper products (I found the cutest graduation card there not too long ago). According to Ultra , and confirmed on the Hecklewood blog , Hecklewood streetwear is relocating its studio and retail shop to SW 3rd and Couch in OTCT. Meanwhile, check out their online shop and definitely bookmark the blog. The Hecklewood crew seems to have a real affinity for fun things— Rogue Ales , Sub Pop , Serial Killer Dump Sites —they'll definitely be another perfect addition to the neighborhood. Welcome!!!

The Chosen One
by pearlgirl
If you were empowered to design your own sneakers—what would they look like? Imagine your design, and others, being discussed and rated by a worldwide audience. Envision your creation generating the most buzz and being soooooooo popular that it is chosen for production: your sole is immortalized, your story is on the hangtag, and your bank account receives a share of the profit. Last Thursday night, 200 or so creatives descended on Souk in Old Town Chinatown to cast their vote and participate in fashion's first democracy—the launch of RYZ footwear . In case you missed the memo, here and here , RYZ is the new shoe company launched by former Adidas front man, Rob Langstaff. Rather than source designers—yawn, that's so 2007—Langstaff crowdsourced designs from the sneaker-obsessesed public. Sneakers by and for the people, ya'll. Over 2,000 designs were submitted to RYZ, whittled to 60 contenders, and then narrowed to five finalists with the help of an

Fashion Rocks OTCT
by souk
Old Town groovy quotient rising. Thanks eROI for a great party on Friday night. Creatives and techies of Old Town descended upon eroi's new digs for a kinda fashion dance party (some of us shaking our booties more than others). Not on the list this time around? Just go over to their new offices above Compound Gallery and hound them a bit until you're added to play in '09. You can tell them souk sent you. Ha! We'd love to see more of sartorial stumptown coming out next year.

Le Coq closes base in Portland
by pearlgirl
From the Oregonian... The sun has set on the rooster in Portland.
Le Coq Sportif, the French sportswear brand featuring a crowing rooster in its logo, will close its Portland-based North American subsidiary effective immediately, a company official said.
The closure comes less than a year after Le Coq leased offices in Portland and three months after it relaunched its clothing and footwear lines to U.S. consumers. Le Coq, which employed seven in offices on Northwest First Avenue, becomes the third apparel brand this year to curtail operations or close shop in Portland. Adidas AG's North American unit, Adidas America Inc., announced layoffs in April, and sustainably branded apparel startup Nau Inc. shut down earlier this month, idling more than 60.
Tim McCool, chief executive of Le Coq Sportif North America, said Le Coq's closure "is a different story" from Nau's. Although spring sales in the U.S. were successful, executives in France want t
