Encourage Your Governor to Veto House Bill 2056

by pearlgirl
This information is courtesy of News 4 Neighbors:

Steve writes "Dear Governor Kulongoski, House Bill 2056 has made it's way to your desk for consideration. I urge you to veto it.

HB 2056 usurps local control and reduces local governments' ability to protect the quality of our neighborhoods. Voting for this bill would be an early Christmas present to the liquor lobby and a finger in the eye to people fighting to preserve and improve the quality of their towns and cities.

The City of Portland City Council approved the Time, Place & Manner ordinance two years ago to address the small minority of liquor establishments that ran their businesses in an irresponsible manner. Developed by a broad base of stakeholders, the law provides my city government and neighbors like myself a tool to protect neighborhood livability.
Now the liquor lobby is trying to destroy our ability to govern ourselves through HB 2056 while cutting every city and county in Oregon t

The Art of Moving

by pearlgirl
Pulliam Deffenbaugh is pleased to announce its move to a new space on the corner of NW Flanders at 9th Avenue designed by AIA award winner Rick Potestio. The gallery plans to move in September, 2005 when renovations are completed (exact date will be forthcoming as construction progress permits). In 1988, pioneering what has become known as the Pearl District, the gallery opened its doors in a small space on NW Glisan Street. A year and a few months later, the gallery moved to its current location where it has flourished. Ownership of the new gallery space on Flanders Street sets the stage for many more years of providing fine art to the region and beyond.

The summer gallery group exhibition is a celebration of esthetic contributions of Pulliam Deffenbaugh artists. New works by Brian Borrello, James Boulton, Brenden Clenaghen, G. Lewis Clevenger, Anna Fidler, Richard Hoyen, Linda Hutchins, Ken Kelly, and Jeffry Mitchell, Paula Overbay, Curtis Phillips among other galle

NOISE: WHAT TO DO WHEN IT DRIVES YOU CRAZY!

by pearlgirl
NOISE: WHAT TO DO WHEN IT DRIVES YOU CRAZY!

As residents of an urban environment we know to expect noise of all kinds -- garbage trucks, train whistles, construction. Much of it we can't do anything about. However, what about noise from parties or bands playing at local restaurants or bars? The incredibly loud music coming from the On Deck Sports Bar at 14th and Kearney last Sunday was deafening to residents of The Edge and Marshall Wells. It could also clearly be heard from Bridgeport Condos at 12th and Marshall and Pearl Lofts on 10th Hoyt.

There are several things you can do besides pulling your hair out. First of all, between 10 pm and 7 am noise is not supposed to be audible in residential units. This information comes from the Noise Control Office of the City of Portland (503-823-7350). Even before 10 pm, there are noise limits. You can request that decibel level readings be taken by a Noise Control Officer. Even if all you can do is leave a messa
