Portland Makes NYT List of 31 Summer Stops

The New York Times has named 31 interesting places to visit this summer. Portland made the list as a foodie haven: "As far as foodie havens go, Portland has been better known for its vegan cafes and eco-hippie cooperatives than for restaurants with gastronomic ambitions. But an emerging locavore movement has changed that. Drawn by the city’s low rents and artsy vibe, young chefs are breaking the culinary mold and tapping into the Northwestern bounty of local fisheries, small meat purveyors and artisanal farms. History spices up second pizza outpost

I love Old Town Pizza and although I will likely always go to the original Old Town location (can't beat it because it's within walking distance of my house) I'm really excited to hear about the second location in the King neighborhood. Adam Milne is such a positive and thoughtful business owner, I'm sure the new location will be a hit with locals. Best of luck! The Village Building Convergence is a 10-day event held every May, where a convergence of citizens, natural builders and activists come together to help neighborhoods design and build their own community amenities. Shaver Green apartment building will be sustainable and affordable

From the Daily Journal of Commerce... A once blighted piece of commercial property in Northeast Portland that was home to a used appliance store will be the site of a $16.2 million green, affordable apartment building.Groundbreaking will be held today at 4011 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. for the Shaver Green Building, which has been designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold or platinum certification, while meeting the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development income level requirements.
Occupants of the 85-unit building must earn at or below 60 percent of Multnomah County’s two-person household median income of $32,580.
Shaver Green will aim for 60 percent or better performance beyond the Oregon Energy Code, and will have a solar roofing system. It will also use recycled and prefabricated materials. Crews will recycle 95 percent of construction and demolition waste, and the 89,000-square-foot building will have
