6a00d8341c86d053ef010536274c9c970b-300wi Brian Libby is a mindreader. I've wanted to peek inside Hakoya Lofts on North Williams for a while now, and he published an article about it yesterday on Portland Architecture . It's definitely a 'note of interest' and we hope you enjoy it. photo: Brian Libby

Weekend Bookmarks » Things You May Have Missed (Nov 22 & 23)

by pearlgirl
medium_holidazed Just in case you missed them, we found four Portland-related tidbits this weekend: a glowing review of Marc Acito's Holidazed , renewed excitement over Kenton's new public library, handy tips for vegans hosting carnivores for Thanksgiving, and the adventures of 156 volunteers in Hosford-Abernethy. Very satisfying reads. Enjoy! Visit me on Ma.gnolia Check out all of our bookmarks on ma.gnolia

djc1120_Skateboard_Park_Por The daily news is pretty bleak these days, but yesterday we found four Portland-related articles that gave our spirits a lift: There are two new restaurants—one in Sellwood-Moreland and the other in NW District —whose value-priced menus are getting good reviews. Beaumont Middle School offers a unique mentorship program that pairs community members with struggling students—with fantastic results! The "crown jewel" of the Portland skateboard park system is planned for Old Town Chinatown. Yesterday, the City issued a request for proposal for a skateboard park builder and designer. The Community Cycling Center is launching a new project in 2009 to reach underserved communities in North and Northeast Portland. It's great to see new development, new businesses and new community service projects in Portland neighborhoods, don't you think? Read all about it in the links below. photo: daily journal of commerce <a href="http://

genoa Yesterday's news highlights were a tad bittersweet: a touching tribute to the life and times of Genoa (closing on Saturday after 38 years in business), Peacock Lane embraces a new holiday tradition, OMSI announces staff cuts (after sharing its expansion plans over the weekend), and the bike boulevard planned for NE Going Street has received overwhelming resident support. What a difference a little time makes, huh? photo: Oregonian Visit me on Ma.gnolia Check out all of our bookmarks on ma.gnolia

medium_butterflybush20 There were some interesting tidbits in today's news: a backyard favorite is listed as a harmful invader—don't be fooled by the butterflies and sweet fragrance, this plant is a killer. USPS is raising its shipping rates. This year, it really pays to ship things during, not after, the holidays. Metropolis Cycle Shop and Pedal Bike Tours share a new North Portland space. You might say it's a tandem arrangement. (eyeroll) A Portland holiday tradition goes green with the help of LED lighting. And, finally, proposed height changes in Old Town's historic district draws national attention. Visit me on Ma.gnolia

The State of Oregon Pinot

by stockboy
WK-AN376_TASTIN_D_20081023195707 In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Oregon wines, especially our Pinot Noir, were reviewed. "We are delighted to report that Oregon Pinot continues its upward trajectory. The difference in the wines over the years is remarkable. We found again and again in this tasting that the wines have developed a confidence and depth that beautifully complement their lovely fruit. The wines have not only a purity of fruit but a purity of vision that is very attractive. Like Burgundy itself, these are wines that speak softly to the more romantic parts of our being." The entire article can be read at Wall Street Journal .
