Here is our daily list of interesting links. One of the stories is about land that University of Portland has purchased. I believe the land is the McCormick & Baxter Creosote Plant superfund site. It has been a great site for photography, and most recently even used as a small skateboard park. I guess it's good the land will be used, but it's a great example of urban decay and I'll hate to see that go.

Input needed on Killingsworth Traffic Concerns

“Stuart Gwin of PDOT will be meeting with representatives from King, Concordia, and Vernon to discuss traffic safety issues along Killingsworth, as there is an allocation of PDOT funds dedicated to improving conditions. If you have opinions about traffic conditions along Killingsworth, specifically between MLK and NE 10th, please let us know by responding to this posting. Are you concerned about sidewalks? Bicycle Boulevards in NE Portland

From Central Northeast Neighbors ... Do you ride your bicycle in NE Portland? Have you noticed that the only bicycle boulevard in the area is NE Tillamook? Well, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance has noticed. The BTA has researched the streets in NE Portland and found those streets that would work as a bicycle boulevard. NE Going Street is one of those streets. This street was chosen because it runs continuously for 3.5 miles with minimal auto traffic and low car speeds. It will also create a safe bike route to nine parks, eleven schools, nine neighborhoods, and four business districts, all in your community. Yard Sign 101

Have you ever wondered how to get one of the yard signs that asks for motor vehicles to slow down for kids, pedestrians, or bikes? After a little digging, the Stephens Street Neighborhood Watch Group was able to find the answer to this question. Thanks to Steve Huckins and the entire Stephens Street crew for sharing this information with all of us. Together, we can do more—better! Yard Sign Lender Program The City of Portland Office of Transportation has yard signs available for residents to "borrow" for as long of a period of time as they are interested. Each sign features a black steel "A" frame along with a 18"h x 24"w PVC sign. The signs, attached by independent clips, hang freely from the steel "A" frame and move in the breeze. The Office of Transportation yard signs are portable and suitable for quick and easy display by residents in their yards. Signs should be brought indoors each evening, if possible, to minimize vandal

Traffic Plan for Bridge Pedal

The 13th annual Providence Bridge Pedal on Sunday morning, August 10, will involve nine Willamette River bridges in Portland. The event includes three different cycle routes and one for walkers. As usual, the event will require some changes in how motorists get around the city, especially when crossing the Willamette River. Several bridges - including the Burnside, Morrison, and St. Johns - will remain open to vehicular traffic in both directions, despite the presence of cyclists and walkers. Here is the traffic plan for Bridge Pedal, starting with bridges from south to north: The Sellwood Bridge will be closed westbound from 6 am to 9 am. The Ross Island Bridge will be closed westbound at 5 am and will reopen by noon. The Marquam Bridge/Interstate 5 will be closed northbound (upper deck) from 2 a.m. to noon. Expect 15-minute delays downtown The 13th annual Providence Bridge Pedal on Sunday morning, August 10, will involve nine Willamette River bridges in Portland. The event includes three different cycle routes and one for walkers. As usual, the event will require some changes in how motorists get around the city, especially when crossing the Willamette River. Several bridges—including the Burnside, Morrison and St. Johns—will remain open to vehicular traffic in both directions, despite the presence of cyclists and walkers. TriMet buses and MAX trains may experience delays up to 15 minutes in downtown during the event. Buses are being routed off the Broadway Bridge for the event and the Steel Bridge is closed to all vehicular traffic because of construction. Buses that regularly use these bridges are being rerouted to the Burnside, Morrison and Hawthorne bridges. Read TriMet's full press release .
