Fire it Up: BBQ Brings the Sweet and the Heat in North/NE
by NoPo Ness
Fire it Up: BBQ Brings the Sweet and the Heat in North/NE By NoPo Ness I've scouted out the local BBQ scene in North and Northeast P-town so you can get your sticky hands on the best. Now, get your palate revved up and ready for that delicate blend of saucy and smoky, heat and sweet and fallin' off the bone goodness that we call Barbeque. Cannon's Rib Express 5410 NE 33rd
(503) 288-3836 Cruise on over to this finger lickin' joint located in the NE 33rd New Seasons Market parking lot for lip smackin' ribs, succulent brisket and stacks of white bread to sop it all up with. One of the best things about Cannon's is Sundays- when New Orleans born saxophonist, Reggie Houston takes to the patio with one of his many bands. Houston, who has played with the likes of Ray Charles, Fats Domino, the Neville Brothers and Harry Connick, Jr. claims on his site (www.reggiehouston.com) that Cannon's is his favorite BBQ in town.

Bicycle Boulevards in NE Portland
by pearlgirl
From Central Northeast Neighbors ... Do you ride your bicycle in NE Portland? Have you noticed that the only bicycle boulevard in the area is NE Tillamook? Well, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance has noticed. The BTA has researched the streets in NE Portland and found those streets that would work as a bicycle boulevard. NE Going Street is one of those streets. This street was chosen because it runs continuously for 3.5 miles with minimal auto traffic and low car speeds. It will also create a safe bike route to nine parks, eleven schools, nine neighborhoods, and four business districts, all in your community. Read more about this project at the BTA website, and get active! Contact Emily Gardner at Emily@bta4bikes.org for more information, and check out www.bikeblvd.com . Metal Thieves "Metaling" Again
by jenniferd
One of the Portland Water Bureau's meter readers recently reported a growing number of missing meter lids on the eastside of our city. The problem areas are around NE Alberta and 16th - 18th streets and SE Hawthorne and 25th. These lids are, presumably, stolen property. The Water Bureau will make every attempt to replace these lids as soon as possible as the missing lids create a safety hazard for the public. Their absence leaves a hole in the ground where someone (or something) could potentially trip or get stuck. Please be on the look out for missing meter lids and call 503-823-4874 to report a lid missing, or Water Bureau security at 503-823-8064 should you suspect that your meter lid has been stolen. The Water Bureau has been plagued by a series of metal thefts over the past several years including historical site plaques , fountain parts and hardware and drinking fountain bowls .
