Known as the Star Festival, Tanabata is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year, when the two stars Vega and Altair—which are usually separated from each other by the Milky Way—come together. Guests to the Garden's Tanabata Festival take part in the tradition of writing one's wishes and hanging them on a tree with the hope that they will come true. The Garden's event also includes picture storytelling (kamishibai), guitar music, and hands-on activities for children.
